7 Worst Fashion Mistakes By The Full-Figured Female
Previously we did a post on Flattering Costumes for the Plus Size Female. However, we received a question from one of our visitors and wanted to know the opposite: “What if you have a few costumes left in your closet and were not planning to buy new ones. Then what?” So we set out to solve the plus-size dilemma from the other point of view. Here is a similar post about the 7 worst fashion mistakes made by the full-figured female. Basically a quick list of tips of “What NOT To Wear”.
What Not To Wear: 7 Worst Fashion Mistakes By The Full-Figured or Plus-Size Female

1. Turtlenecks or High Neck Costumes. Never wear turtlenecks. Turtlenecks generally cuts the body from the face up and makes you look wider. Instead find a costume with an open and deep V-neck or sweatheart neckline that allows the eye to flow continuously from the face to your frame thereby elongating the neckline and gives the illusion of length.
Solution: If you have a costume with a high neckline, try to open it up if there are buttons. Otherwise wear a long necklace as part of your costume and this will help create that mock V-neckline that is known to elongate your neck.

2. Sheath Dresses Costumes. Sheath dresses are the most unflattering style for the plus size woman. Unless you are super thin, stay away from this dress. The sheath dress does not accentuate the waistline and is meant to flow gracefully over a slim body. For plus-size or larger women, there is often no extra fabric around the waist and therefore you end up with a boxy look, which is quite unflattering.
Solution: If you are stuck with a sheath dress costume, don’t fret. Take a large scarf (or chain belt) and tie it diagonally around the waist to elongate the waistline and to give the illusion of length and a waist.

3. Wearing Costumes That Are Too Small. The worst fashion mistake I see women make is not accepting their size. One woman who had gained weight denied it by wearing her old clothes – not appealing at all. Try to look at yourself with acceptance and realism. Then dress you as you are. I always hate pictures of me or mirrors, but I don’t want my parts hanging out either! You are a good person regardless of your size – dress to flatter that good person.
Solution: Simple! Don’t wear the small outfits.

4. Cap Sleeves. You know those cute cap sleeves that looks so adorable on those baby doll dresses? Don’t wear them. It makes your arm look bigger and fatter. Though the empire waist may be forgiving for the larger size frame, the sleeves are not.
Solution: If you are stuck with a costume that has those sleeves, get a shawl and cover up. Tie to the front in a V-shape and thereby creating the illusion of length again and a slimming effect.

5. Oversized Baggy Costume. Another common mistake of plus size women is to go the other extreme by wearing oversized clothing thinking that they will look thinner. Or they have such low self-confidence due to their weight so they try to hide by wearing an oversized costume. Instead, it makes them look worse and as result they feel worse about themselves.
Solution:Take the costume to a seamstress to have it taken in so that it fits right.

6. Horizontal Lines On Costumes. Don’t wear clothes with lines going across. Lines going across make a woman look wider across, which is the last thing we want.
Solution:Try to find a costume with vertical lines or that creates the illusion of length. If a replacement costume is not possible try to find a way to cover up, or dye the costume a solid color using fabric dye.

7. Tapered Pants Costumes. Pants that are tapered at the ankles will make your ankles look fat and stumpy. These type of pants only look good on women with slim legs.
Solution:Try to find a long top that has vertical lines to it (long fringes, or long cardigan) to wear over the pants. Or add a mock flare attachment to the bottom of the pants from the knee down so they look like flare pants.
